'The truth is, in order to heal we need to tell our stories and have them witnessed… the story itself becomes a vessel that holds us up, that sustains, that allows us to order our jumbled experiences into meaning. As I told my stories of fear, awakening, struggle, and transformation and had them received, heard, and validated by other women, I found healing. I also needed to hear other women’s stories in order to see and embrace my own. Sometimes another woman’s story becomes a mirror that shows me a self I haven’t seen before. When I listen to her tell it, her experience quickens and clarifies my own. Her questions rouse mine. Her conflicts illumine my conflicts. Her resolutions call forth my hope. Her strengths summon my strengths. All of this can happen even when our stories and our lives are very different.'

my womanspeak journey

I was born into domestic violence and from very early on I realised not one person, not a family member, a community member, a teacher, the police said one word about what they witnessed.

From this abandonment I struggled throughout my life to be seen, to be heard, with low self esteem, anxiety, fear of judgement and full of self doubt. It makes perfect sense that I could not tell my truth.

It served me whilst I was growing up, protected me and kept me safe – it allowed me to be loved.

But then as an adult I couldn’t be honest about other things, so I started my healing journey as a young adult.

This helped me meet and marry a beautiful kind man that is balanced and full to the brim with goodness.

I had broken the pattern of domestic violence and my past.

We were raising our children and I explored many different healing modalities which helped greatly.

I was ready to share my truth – from the little moments to big decisions.
But I still DID NOT KNOW HOW TO USE MY VOICE. For so many years I had abandoned my voice and my body’s wisdom and I had never had the modelling from family or culture.
I never learned the skill of speaking my truth and that brings me to looking and finding WOMANSPEAK. I was asking and looking for something to give me the skills and I have now been a member of Womanspeak since November 2019.
At Womanspeak I found a body of work that brought me home to myself.
I want to share this extraordinary work.
This beautiful, powerful body of work helped to:
  • rewire my nervous system
  • connect me to my body and breath
  • listen to my wisdom
  • celebrate my brilliance
  • honour my story
All in a safe, nurturing space.

It has been transformational for me in both my personal and professional life and has given me the freedom to be and speak from the heart – something that has been invaluable to me.

I love the unique philosophies and techniques that Womanspeak provides and the focus on psychological and emotional safety.

I believe each and every one of us has a song in their heart and wisdom to share. I often imagine a world where we would be able to share freely, unleash our brilliance and step into the power of our voice and message.

I would be honoured to have you join my circle.

“For too long, public speaking trainings have fostered a masculine model of what leadership and professionalism looks and feels like. This can have a detrimental effect on the self-esteem of women and girls who desire to speak up and lead.”
KC Baker
